Dozens of parents, grandparents, sisters and brothers came out to support each other Saturday at Center Springs Park in Manchester, as The Compassionate Friends East of the River CT Chapter, hosted an event designed to help parents who have lost a child.

The event was organized by Chapter Leader Bettie-Jeanne Rivard-Darby and her husband Jim Darby, who lost their daughter RobynApril in 2008.

Walkers went on the 2.5-mile route starting at 11 a.m. and returned for a community cookout in the park and a butterfly release, which is the symbol of The Compassionate Freinds organization.
