Significant progress is being made on the town hall geothermal project, Human Services Director Beverly Bellody reported at Wednesday night's Energy Task Force meeting.

Workers have finished drilling the 40 geothermal wells in the parking lot, have installed circulation pumps in the building and are currently installing pipes, Bellody said.

The library work is also coming along, with a new skylight in place. Bellody said that the library may be able to use the geothermal system starting in April, depending on how work continues to progress.

"It's a challenge when you're working in an operating building," she acknowledged.

She said that the entire project is still slated to be complete in the fall of 2012.

I'll definitely be glad to see this work done. I love the Tolland library, and these renovations will match the cost-effective, progressive action taken by our town. This project will continue to make Tolland a peaceful and enjoyable place to live.
