Passover Crafts for Kids

Quick and easy crafts for children of all ages

The Seder Monday night, April 18th, signifies the beginning of Passover. Grab the kids this weekend and head to your local store to pick-up some supplies to make these simple, yet meaningful, crafts.

Marvelous Matzah Cover is made with felt and craft ribbon. Children may use foam letters, glitter, pom poms or whatever they please to decorate the cover.  Possibilities are endless depending what embellishments you have on hand. Younger children will need to be supervised during this project. http://www.happypassover.net/crafts/preschool-kids-craft.html

Afikomen Bag repurposes an old t-shirt and is inexpensive to create. After cutting off the sleeves and neck of the t-shirt glue three sides together to form an envelope.  Use sequins, fabric paint or markers, rhinestones and ribbon or trim to jazz up your bag. http://www.parentsconnect.com/do/afikomen_bag.jhtml

Passover Seder Plate teaches children about Passover traditions. Parents have the opportunity to educate their children while constructing this craft. Most if not all of the items needed for this project are probably already in your home. If doing this project with older children has then draw the items for the Seder plate rather then using computer-generated images. http://www.nickjr.com/crafts/passover-seder-plate.jhtml?path=/crafts/all-shows/seasonal_passover-crafts/all-ages/index.jhtml

Seder Pillowcases allow family members to recline in style. This project is simple and uses only a few supplies. You'll really only need a plain colored pillowcase, fabric crayons or paints, a piece of cardboard, and an iron. Allow children to use their imagination while designing their pillowcase. Hebrew letter stencils can be used if you desire. http://www.creativejewishmom.com/2011/04/passover-kids-craft-decorate-pillowcases-for-the-seder.html

Passover Cards allow your child to practice writing in Hebrew. Family members and/or friends will enjoy receiving this handmade craft. The instructions call for specific colored cardstock and paint pens. However, use whatever colors you or your child desire. If creating this project with younger children use crayons instead of paint pens. You may also need to help with the Hebrew.  http://crafts.kaboose.com/passover-greeting-card.html
