Tolland Police Blotter: May 26 - June 2

The following arrest reports, provided by Connecticut State Police Troop C in Tolland, are accurate as of noon on June 2, 2011. Items on this list reflect charges filed, not convictions.

May 26

Police are investigating a disturbance near 1630 Old Post Road where an alleged assault took place at 5:15 p.m. in a motor vehicle that caused the vehicle to struck a mailbox.

Employees of the Tolland Family Chiropractic Center on Merrow Road (Route 195) reported that a black male in his 40s or 50s had attempted to take a petty cash box from the business. The male, described as wearing a blue and white shirt, fled on foot to Route 195. Despite a search, state police could not find the man.

May 27

Jeffrey Nostine, 21, of 31 Indian Pipe Trail, Avon, was arrested and charged with driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs and failure to driver right along the northbound side of Route 195. He was released on a $500 bond and is scheduled to appear in Rockville Superior Court on June 6.

May 28

Robert Lee Jette, 38, of Ste. Adolphe, Quebec, was arrested and charged with speeding, driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs and failure to drive right on Route 195. He was released on a $1,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in Rockville Superior Court on June 6.

May 29

A Tolland man was charged with evading responsibility when he left the scene of a single-car accident on Route 32 in Willington at 8:26 p.m. Ryan G. Poulin, 32, of 609 Merrow Rd., Apt. 62, was traveling north on Route 32 when he lost control of his vehicle and struck a metal guardrail. Poulin parked his vehicle on the side of the road and left. He turned himself into to Troop C state police in Tolland on May 30.

May 30

Michael Edward Mee, 42, of 144 Gehring Rd., Tolland, was arrested and charged with driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs, driving without a valid license, possession of drug paraphernalia and possession of a controlled substance. Mee was arrested during a state police investigation of another alleged crime on Grant Hill Road.

Justin Black, 25, of Middletown, was arrested and charged with failure to maintain motor vehicle insurance, driving under the influence of alcohol and drugs, improper parking after failing a sobriety test during a routine motor vehicle stop. He was released on a $500 bond and is scheduled to appear in Rockville Superior Court on June 13.

Robert L. Lyman II, 21, of 26 Vaalcom Rd., Tolland, was arrested and charged at 12:13 a.m. with driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs, a stop sign violation and making a restricted turn. Lyman failed a routine sobriety test when state police stopped him on Gehring Road Ext. He was released on a $500 bond and is scheduled to appear in Rockville Superior Court on June 20.

May 31

Police are investigating an accident on Interstate 84 West where a Kinnelon, NJ, man driving a car hit an object in the center of three lanes  at 9:50 p.m. William A. Hickey was not injured and her car did not need to be towed.

Police are investigating an accident on Interstate 84 West where a Westport woman driving a 2007 BMW 328xi hit an object in the middle of the right lane of three at 10:14 p.m. Cynthia Cohen was not injured and her car did not need to be towed.

June 1

A Brooklyn, NY, man was extradited from the city to Connecticut on the strength of a warrant charged him with first-degree forgery after his friend passed counterfeit bills given to her by the man in September 2010 to bail him out after he was arrested for reckless driving and driving without a license.

Chadwhyck Stephenson, 25, was held on a $40,000 bond and appeared in Rockville Superior Court on June 2. At his appearance, a judge continued Stephenson's case to June 27.

According to his arrest warrant, Connecticut State Police Trooper Philip Gawronski wrote that when he arrested Stephenson after a traffic stop on Sept. 24, 2010, Stephenson handed a woman in the car $450 from his pocket, with permission from the trooper. The woman later used that money to pay for Stephenson's bond.

Upon inspection of the money, state troopers determine that at least half the bills were counterfeit, Gawronski wrote in the warrant.

According to the warrant, Stephenson has an extensive criminal record in New York, including charges of possession of weapons, first-degree robbery, grand larceny, criminal possession of stolen property, misapplication of property and possession of marijuana.
