Patch, State Farm Agency Teaming Up to Collect Food for HVCC Pantry

Things to know for Wednesday, July 24.

Happy Wednesday. Patch and the Weissberger State Farm Agency at 10 Hyde Avenue in Vernon - near the Tolland Line on Route 30 - hope to make it happier for the needy by collecting food for the Hockanum Valley Community Council's regional food pantry.

Patch will be at the agency from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. to say hello and collect donations, so drop by and drop off an item.

Here are five ways to donate.

1. Gift cards. HVCC chief executive David Engelson said they allow the pantry to shop in bulk at FoodShare to get more itemns for thge same amount of money.

2. Subsidize the FoosShare account. It serves the same purpose as the gift cards.

3. Donate Peanut Butter and Jelly. There is a huge demand for it among families

4. Donate mac and cheese. Another staple for families trying to get their kids to eat while not being able to afford much.

5. Donate Pasta and sauce. It's another good way to stretch a meal when there is not a lot.
