RAGE at THS, Free ESL Classes and More ...

Things to know in Tolland for Sept. 17, 2013.

RAGE Robotics has a new home in Room 70 of Tolland High School. 
RAGE is sponsoring an open house on Wednesday at 7 p.m.

The Tolland Family Resource Center and Vernon Regional Adult Based Education are offering FREE ESL classes on Mondays and Wednesdays from 5:30 to 8:30 at Birch Grove Primary School.

Genealogy on the Internet” will be  the topic of a free public seminar offered by the French-Canadian Genealogical Society of Connecticut at 7 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 19.

The program is slated for the society library in the Old County Courthouse, 53 Tolland Green, in Tolland. 

Ivan Robinson of Tolland will offer tips on how to use the Internet to find genealogical information and to connect with people researching the same name. 

He will also discuss the 1940 U.S. census, which is on line and is name searchable. To register, call 860-623-8721 or send an e-mail to semfcgsc@aol.com.



The Town, in conjunction with the Board of Education is planning an opening ceremony on Friday for the new artificial; turf field at Tolland High School. 
The event will include pre-game festivities, a formal ribbon cutting ceremony and a varsity football game against Rocky Hill starting at 6:30 p.m. 

Halftime festivities are also planned.

Gov. Dannel P. Malloy, in response to a proclamation issued this evening by President Barack Obama, has directed all U.S. and state flags in Connecticut to fly at half-staff until sunset on September 20, 2013 in honor of the victims of the senseless acts of violence perpetrated today at the Washington Navy Yard.

 “Our hearts go out to everyone who was affected by this morning’s shooting at the Washington Navy Yard,” said Governor Malloy. “On behalf of the people of Connecticut, we offer our deepest condolences and will keep the victims of this senseless tragedy in our thoughts and prayers.”
