On Friday July 13, 2012, Sen. Tony Guglielmo (R-Stafford), an Army Veteran accepted the American Legion’s Legislator of the Year Award 2012. The award is given to those in public service who support veterans and the Soldiers, Sailors & Marine Fund.
"There’s not a greater force of American Freedom in the world than what is represented here in this room," said Sen. Guglielmo. "I’m honored to receive the plaque because of who it came from. I am proud to stand before you and I guarantee you it will have a prominent place in my office in Hartford."
Senator Guglielmo was also recognized for his service as a ranking member of the Public Safety Committee. Senator Guglielmo received the award at the Department’s 94th annual Convention in Rocky Hill at the Mariott Hotel.
The American Legion was chartered and incorporated by Congress in 1919 as a patriotic veterans organization devoted to mutual helpfulness. It is the nation’s largest wartime veterans’ service organization, committed to mentoring youth and sponsorship of wholesome programs in our communities, advocating patriotism and honor, promoting strong national security, and continued devotion to our fellow service members and veterans.
