Tolland Education Foundation (TEF) has awarded $2,798 each to Tolland Middle School Special Education teachers Carla Corcoran and Catherine Churchill. Interactive Smart Boards will be installed in each teacher’s classroom to support student academic performance, motivation, and self efficacy.
The interactive whiteboards provide both practical and unconventional learning opportunities for all students. Through this grant Corcoran and Churchill will be able to expand strategies for teaching, focusing and reinforcing student learning in small and large group, as well as individualized structured study situations.
In support of these two Smart Board grants TMS Principal Walt Willett said, “The Cognition and Technology Group at Vanderbilt has demonstrated through various research projects that when students encounter information in innovative ways that involve them directly in the acquisition of knowledge, they retain that knowledge more effectively."
To date, TEF has awarded over $141,000 in grants and in-kind donations to the Tolland Public Schools.
