East Catholic High School, Manchester, CT is proud to announce that Senior
Grant Marsden has been named a National Merit Semifinalist. Grant now has an
opportunity to continue in the competition for some 8,300 National Merit
Scholarships worth more than $32 million dollars. To be considered for a Merit
the Finalist level of the competition. About 90 percent of the Semifinalists are
expected to attain Finalist standing, and more than half of the Finalists will
win a National Merit Scholarship, earning the Merit Scholar title. This past
spring Grant also competed in the U.S. National Chemistry Olympiad competition
where he was named a National Semifinalist. While at East Catholic, Grant has
participated in numerous clubs and activities including the Debate Club, outdoor
track, music, and community service. He is also skilled in the martial arts
having obtained Kukkiwon 2nd Degree Black Belt status in Taekkwondo
and will be testing for 3rd degree status this October.
