Library Expansion Project to be Discussed Thursday with Town Committees
Library Director Barbara Pettijohn will make a presentation Thursday, Oct. 10 before the Republican Town Committee and the Democratic Town Committee on the proposed library expansion that is before voters at a Nov. 5 referendum.
Pettijohn will discuss the details of the project, which would expand the library into the Hicks gym at town hall. It will cost $2.6 million, but town officials have identified $1.9 million in grants that if obtained, will help ease the burden on local taxpayers.
She will be joined by representatives of YES for a Better Library, a new group that was formed to urge Tolland voters to approve the project. Pettijohn is not a member of the group or either town committee in Tolland.
The Republican Town Committee will meet at 7 p.m. in Conference Room A in town hall. Chairwoman Laura Roberts said the meeting is open to all registered Republicans in Tolland.
The Democratic Town Committee will meet at 7:30 p.m. in the Library Program Room. Chairman Steven Jones said the meeting is open to the public.
