Tolland Education Foundation granted over $24,000 to Tolland Public Schools in 2013
It has been a decade since Tolland Education Foundation, Inc. (TEF) was created in January 2004 to stimulate innovation and excellence in Tolland Public Schools. In that time, TEF has continued to support and provide creative learning opportunities that enhance students’ educational experiences.
During 2013 TEF awarded over $24,000 in grant funding, supporting six innovative learning projects within Tolland Public Schools. These grants supported the DECA program, science research and learning through iPads, reading comprehension with “Our Friend Braidy” posters, SMART board technology in a music classroom and in other classrooms at Birch Grove Primary School, and document HoverCams for use in the middle school Language Arts classrooms.
TEF is a nonpartisan organization that operates independently of the town’s budgetary process. Throughout its history TEF has been committed to providing non-traditional support for innovation in Tolland’s classrooms. TEF awards grants to teachers who have developed innovative learning projects and opportunities that will increase their students’ achievement and creativity. In the past 10 years our grant awards have varied, encompassing preschool through grade 12, typical programs, as well as enrichment and special needs programs. We have impacted student outcomes in all subject areas. In some cases, we have partnered with area businesses to provide the funds for our grants, and they, too, bring energy and ideas to the table. Over the past decade, TEF has donated over $180,000 to Tolland Public Schools.

Grants and in-kind donations are 100% funded from individual and corporate contributors. Thanks to our donors we are able to support our students and teachers beyond the conventional resources of our town’s public schools. TEF has three fundraisers planned in 2014. A wine dinner will be upcoming in early spring. Our Annual Appeal will be mailed town wide in late spring, welcoming donations of all sizes. Be sure to join us for TEF’s signature fundraiser, a wine and beer tasting on November 15 at Crandall’s Lodge.
