Joining a growing number of Connecticut towns, Tolland has recently established an Agriculture Commission concerned with locally grown food, food security and the loss of agriculturally important land to development.
The mission of this newly established Agriculture Commission is to aid in the promotion, support, education, and preservation of agriculture in town.
Tolland is fortunate to have been able to attract members with a broad variety of agricultural backgrounds bringing a wealth of knowledge and enthusiasm to the commission.
The five members, Linda Palmer (chair), Ross Luginbuhl (vice chair), Deb Campbell (secretary), Stephen Hill, Archie Tanner and two alternates, Heather Ferretti and Charlotte Jorgensen, have committed to meeting twice a month for the first year to get the commission working in a positive direction.
They will be meeting with various state and local organizations to familiarize themselves with issues affecting agriculture locally and the programs available to municipalities through state and federal agencies for the promotion and preservation of agriculture.
They look forward to fostering a greater understanding of agriculture within the community and promoting its benefits. You can contact them through Linda Farmer’s office in town hall or e-mail - lfarmer@tolland.org - be sure to put “ag commission” in the subject line.
Currently, theTolland Agriculture Commission is conducting a survey to gauge public interest in an educational "Homesteading Series. They are asking Tolland residents to respond to their survey at:

Your participation in this survey will help us develop a series with wide appeal. Also, if you have further questions or comments you may e-mail the commission through Linda Farmer's office at the address above.
