Belsito Captures 53rd District State House Seat

He took Tolland and Willington.

Republican Sam Belsito captured the vacant 53rd District seat in the state House of Representatives on Tuesday by winning a special election.

The district is made up of Tolland's first two districts and Willington and Ashford.

Belsito received 1,910 votes districtwide. Democrat Tony Horn received 1,356.

In Tolland, Belsito garnered 1,024 votes to Horn's 794.

In Willington, it was 549 for Belsito and 181 for Horn.

Horn took his hometown of Ashford 381-337.

The seat was up for grabs after state Rep. Bryan Hurlburt resigned to take a federal agriculture position.
