Good News Friday: Awards, Girls Scout Cookies and Free Coffee (again!)

There are lots of good things that happen in and around Tolland everyday. Each Friday we highlight just some of those events and wins to make sure that credit is given where credit is due.

Thin Mints. Samoas. Do-si-dos. Tagalongs. Yum!

It's that time of year again: Girl Scout cookies are back! You might have started to see the craft tables and familiar green boxes popping up in public places and at storefronts near you.

To make it even easier for you to find your favorite snack, the Girl Scouts of Connecticut have a cookie sale locater on its website and there's even an app!

On Saturday, Girl Scouts will be at Star Hardware on Tolland Stage Road with boxes ready to unload.

Just as sweet, is when local people are recognized for an accomplishment, academic or otherwise. This week Tolland Patch received two announcements of great stuff coming from Tolland High School alum.

This first news comes out of Bay State College in Boston where Erin Hefferan was awarded the Program Excellence Award for her leadership and outstanding academic achievement. That’s it? Nope.

Erin was also named to the Fall 2012 Deans' List. She is a 2010 graduate of Tolland High School studying Fashion Merchandising. Not too shabby!

Not to be outdone, fellow Eagle Jeffrey Gilcreast got his name on the fall 2012 Dean's List at the Loyola University in Maryland. In order to qualify for the Dean's List at Loyola, a student must have a GPA of at least 3.5 with a minimum of 15 credits. Gilcreast is on track to graduate in 2016.

And who doesn't like free coffee, especially when it's for the second week in a row? Between Rounds on Merrow Road is offering a free cup of Joe today to customers that stop by and say hello.
