Holiday Festivities Come to Tolland Green

Scenes from the Annual Tree Lighting and Parade

The town of Tolland kicked off the Christmas season with its annual Tree Lighting and Torchlight Parade on Saturday evening. Numerous families filled the Town Green, some encircling the towering evergreen tree, while others joined in the caroling as madrigal singers from the high school led participants in festive song.

Not too long after folks began congregating at 4 p.m., sirens blared, and people stepped aside as a police cruiser pulled up. To everyone's delight, Santa emerged from the vehicle to join his wife, who had been busy milling around and chatting with young ones. After giving the signal to light the tree, together the pair took their seats to listen to the wishes of children.

Once the skies grew dark, it was time for the parade portion of the evening. Specially decorated firetrucks from Tolland and surrounding towns wowed the crowds with beautiful displays of lights that adorned the vehicles. Some trucks played music, and volunteers on others threw candy to parade goers.
