Library Project Gets a Cool Million

A State Library grant has been awarded to the project to expand the Tolland Public Library.

A State Library grant valued at $1 million has been awarded to the project to expand the Tolland Public Library.

Town Manager Steven Werbner said the town was notified of the grant on Monday.

The project has a price tag of $2.6 million and that amount was approved by residents for bonding - if necessary - on the November ballot. The renovations are designed to expand the library into the Hicks Municipal Center gymnasium next door.

The project will also make the lower level of the Hicks Center fully accessible.

Werbner said the $1.6 million left over after the State Library grant could be further offset by a total of $1 million in grants either applied for or in the process of being applied for.
