Meet Me on Main for Coffee and Eggs in an Artistic Surrounding

Coventry Village Spot Is a Pick-Me-Up on a Work Day, a Must on the Weekend

One of the best ways to start the weekend is to go down to Meet Me on Main Café in Coventry Village, where the food is homemade and delectable and you're likely to come across an artist or two, a local historian and other assorted regulars. It's decorated to appeal to everyone from ladies with style to a burly ham-and-eggs man sitting at the counter.

As my young companion – OK, my son – noted, “I know a lot of places that are family owned, but they're not that classy.” This place is classy. First, they offer fresh ingredients, garnishing their breakfasts with colorful fruit. Second, the setting is well thought out without being pretentious. And third, their butterscotch walls attractively showcase work of local artists. (You can buy it.)

On a Saturday morning, one of us ordered eggs and cinnamon toast, the other a grilled cheese from the lunch menu and side of home fries from the breakfast side. They're accommodating that way, letting a patron combine breakfast and lunch menu items in that late morning need to meld meals.

Their coffees are comforting and delicious, worth the trip. Two specialties are Tonya's Foo-Foo, with chocolate, caramel, white chocolate and espresso shot with steamed milk for $4, and Funk-y Chai, a chai tea with a single shot of espresso, $3.75-4.50. My breakfast buddy ordered a Boylan lemon-lime soda, which we dubbed nuclear cool in color and key lime pie in taste.

Coming up on their sixth anniversary in October, owner Leane Royer says she is stunned by the community support they've enjoyed over the years in the village. “I wouldn't trade my people for the world,” she says with possessive pride.

The breakfast menu offers omelets – one called “Brian's Gotta Have It” after the chef, Brian Morell – pancakes, French toast, hot cereals and a case of baked goods. Lunch includes hot and cold sandwiches, including clubs, and several yummy salads.

This is a friendly place, and they'll go to trouble for you. “If you don't see it on the menu – just ask – we will do our best to accommodate,” they proclaim in writing on the to-go menu.
