Photo Gallery: Zombies in Tolland

Young Tolland residents try out their best zombie looks as part of a Tolland Public Library Foundation sponsored workshop.

It looked like the zombie apocalypse came early to Tolland this Thursday, as FX make up artist Caroline Wilcox helped young residents transform into zombies during a Foundation sponsored workshop.

Paper clips were put through foreheads, maggots crawled out of faces and bones were showing through the skin as the kids gradually turned into ghouls.

Wilcox said that she achieves the transformation through a combination of high-end theater makeup, as well as homemade ideas, such as using grains of rice to create fake maggots.

"I love showing them how to turn themselves into monsters," Wilcox said. She started out painting faces years ago and learned more about her zombie and gory specialties during various makeup classes.

The workshop is one of the many programs offered as part of the Year of the Young Adult initiative, sponsored by the Tolland Public Library Foundation.
