Plan in Place for Barbara Road Home

It could soon be on more solid ground.

So the razing seems to be turning into the raising.

And it can save the home at 46 Barbara Rd. - if a complex set of stipulations is met regarding the property.

The house was deemed structurally unsound and the Town Council had given the municipal administration the go-ahead to pursue demolition about a month-and-a-half ago.

In a report to the council, Town Manager Steven Werbner said that on April 18, a court order gave permission for the town to demolish the house and place a lien on the property.

According to property records in the town clerk's office, the owners - Kenneth and Judy Buch - sold the property to Donald Childree for $37,500.The transaction was recorded on April 25.

Werbner said the court order was stayed pending a building permit taken out by Childree by June 2.

The house would have be be rehabilitated or demolished within 30 days of the permit issuance. Staff members in the development office said the plans include raising the house up, fixing the foundation and placing the house back in the same spot.

Childree would need to obtain a certificate of occupancy within 11 months of the April 18 court decision, Werbner said. Otherwise, the house could be demolished by the town, he said.
