Rec Officials Considering Middle School After-School Club

A survey is available to gauge interest.

Tolland recreation officials are considering the formation of an after-school program for middle school students.

If there is enough interest, as an alternative to heading home to an empty house or to provide a program for teens to spend time with peers, the Recreation Department will be starting an after-school club for Middle School-age students to be run in the Recreation Center.

The students would be bused from the Middle School to TIS and a staff member from the program would meet them and walk them up to the Recreation Center, town officials said.

The program would be designed to run Monday thru Friday from 2:30 to 6 p.m. and would include a variety of activities.

Town officials are asking parents to go to the town's Web page -  www.Tolland.org -  click in the recreation tab and fill out the survey to give recreation staff members an idea of the amount of interest and the kinds of things they would like to see provided at the program.

"Once we know more, we can set a price and finalize our plans," Recreation Director Tom Ainsworth said.
