The Daily 5: Spring has Sprung ... and so Has a Little Confession

Posted by Chris Dehnel. Compiled and written by Ted Glanzer.

Good morning, Tolland! Today is Tuesday, April 9, 2013; there are 266 days left in the year.

Kids, have a seat. I have a confession to make. There was a time (albeit in the mid-1980s) when I thought this was the greatest video in the history of history.

As one commenter on YouTube put it, that happened. We let it happen.
And I have to live with that shame every day of my life. (Tears)

1. It's going to feel like spring again today. The National Weather Service says to expect temperatures in the low 70s.

2. Psst … want to be on the Tolland Economic Development Commission? There is currently a vacancy for an alternate member. The ideal candidate should have a retail/marketing background. Those interested are invited to submit a letter of interest and/or resume to: Town Manager’s Office, 21 Tolland Green, Tolland, CT 06084; or via e-mail to the Town Manager, Steven Werbner at: swerbner@tolland.org.  The EDC meets the first Wednesday of the month at 7:30 a.m. in Conference Room A on the first floor of the Hicks Memorial Municipal Center at 21 Tolland Green.

3. The Town Council is scheduled to meet tonight at 7:30 at the Hicks Center.

4. Teen writers will perform original poems and compete for prizes on Friday, April 26 when the Tolland Public Library sponsors its second poetry slam. The Tolland Public Library Foundation is sponsoring the slam for students ages 14 to 18 as part of its “Year of the Young Adult” initiative.  The competition is scheduled for 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at the Hicks Center.

5. The 22nd-annual Tolland Memorial Day Parade and Service will be held on Sunday, May 26 at 1 p.m. Parade units will line up at noon in the parking lot on Route 74 next to the Preschool of the Arts. The parade will step off at 1 p.m., will travel past the Tolland Green, turn right onto Old Post Road and will end at Tolland Intermediate School. A solemn memorial ceremony will follow on the school lawn.
