THS Field Project Officially Gets an Added $70,000

The money was given to the town via a grant from the Jeremy Worrell Foundation.

The Town Council on Tuesday formally appropriated an additional $70,000 to the project to install an artificial turf field and lighting at the Tolland High School sports complex.

It is going into a capital account, according to the council agenda.

The money was given to the town via a grant from the Jeremy Worrell Foundation and the Connecticut Association of Athletic Directors. Town Manager Steven Werbner said it is a private foundation that donates funding for athletic projects.

The appropriation was necessary - as was a public hearing - because the amount if well over the $40,000 cumulative threshold, Werbner said.

Human Services director Beverly Bellody was the primary author of the grant application, Werbner said.

The funds were applied to items like a groomer, scoreboard work, and the large decorative "T" on the 50-yard line.
