Updated: Tolland Snowstorm Central

Because of expected heavy snowfall in evening hours, the Hicks Municipal Center and the Tolland Public Library will be closing at 5 p.m. on Thursday. 

There will be no evening recreation activities.  

Town offices are closed on Fridays.

According to a briefing from the town's public safety office, snow amounts are expected to be 6 to 10 inches across most of the state, with 10 to 12 inches possible in the northwest and northeast hills. Wind speeds are expected to be 10 to 25 mph, gusting to 30 to 35 mph, with peak gusts of 40 mph possible tonight through Friday morning. Temperatures will be "bitterly cold" Thursday night into Saturday, with the possibility of single digits through Friday, and sub-zero temperatures over higher terrain.   

Connecticut Light & Power said, based on current forecast predictions, "we are anticipating minimal impact on the electric distribution system."

The state Department of Motor Vehicles is canceling all road tests for Friday. 

Anyone with a scheduled road test can call DMV to choose a new date. The numbers to call are 860-263-5700 if someone is within the Hartford area and 800-842-8222 for those outside the Hartford area. The DMV will also be attempting to contact customers with road test appointments to advise them of the schedule change.

The following news release was issued regarding trash and recycling: 

Please be mindful of the storm and plows while putting out your refuse and recycling totes. There may be a delay in service Friday if the trucks have a difficult time getting through. At this time, service is anticipated to occur some time during the day.     

Also, there was a misprint in the Town Newsletter and the bulky waste pick-up was printed incorrectly.  The schedule is every other month starting the week of January 6th and will be collected again March and May. To schedule a January pick-up you must call four days in advance, 800-286-5335 or schedule on-line at www.williwaste.com
