Town, DOT to Host Another Tolland Green Project Meeting

The meeting is on tap for June 26.

Residents will get a chance to revisit a proposed project for road improvements to Tolland Green this month.

The town and the state Department of Transportation will conduct an informational meeting on Wednesday, June 26, at 7 p.m. at the Hicks Municipal Center.

The meeting will take place in the Council Chambers on the sixth floor.
Tolland Director of Planning and Community Development Linda Farmer said the project is in the final concept stage and may be recommended for construction under the Surface Transportation Program administered by the DOT. The project, if supported by the community and Tolland officials, will be designed with input from both the town and state, she said.

"It is Tolland’s and the State’s policy to keep persons informed and involved when such projects are undertaken," Farmer said. "It is important that the community share its concerns to assist in the projects development."

Farmer said the project is "planned to improve road geometry" at the intersections of Routes 195 and 74 and to "calm traffic, reduce speeds and improve pedestrian travel and safety."

Based upon a preliminary assessment, the construction cost will be about $3.4 million, she said.

It is anticipated that the Federal Highway Administration will provide 80 percent of the cost with the state providing 20 percent, Farmer said.

Anyone interested in obtaining further information or providing input may do so by contacting Farmer at 860-871-3601 or via lfarmer @tolland.org.

Several informational sessions have been hosted so far.
