Water Company Flushing Pipes in Tolland

The utility said that routine flushing helps maintain water quality by scouring the inside of the water pipes.

The Connecticut Water Company is flushing its water mains all over town.
The utility said that routine flushing helps maintain water quality by scouring the inside of the water pipes.

It also gives the utility a chance to assess the condition of fire hydrant, a utility official said.

Flushing operations are ongoing in Tolland and will take place between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. through Oct. 25, the utility said.

It is common during the flushing operations for users to experience discolored water and pressure fluctuations. The discolored usually clears within a few hours, utility officials saids.

While experiencing discolored water, customers should avoid using their washing machine, dishwasher, or other water using devices, the utility said. Customers should call Connecticut Water at 800-286-5700 if discolored water persists for more than a few hours.

Connecticut Water’s water main flushing schedule is available on its Web site. Water main flushing announcements are also posted to Facebook. Connecticut Water’s web site is www.ctwater.com, Facebook (www.facebook.com/CTWtr) and Twitter (www.twitter.com/CTWater).
