What to do in Tolland This Weekend: April 12 - 14

There are several items to choose from, but here's a peek at just a few things going on in and around Tolland this weekend.

1. OK, so the UConn Women’s Basketball Team victory parade is not in Tolland, but it’s a pretty cool event and residents might want to attend. The parade starts at 4 p.m. on Sunday, and it begins and ends at the state Capitol. After the parade will be a short rally to continue to cheer on the team and celebrate their 8th national championship.  Go Huskies!

2. If you enjoy books about Civil War history and female spies, consider attending the program tonight (April 12) at the Babcock Library in Ashford. Matthew Bartlett, author of the Gettysburg Chronicle, will talk about his book and “how women played an important part in the extensive spy networks that were formed on both sides.”

3.  The Vernon Community Arts Center will host the Dionysus Theatre Company’s three-person play “Animals Out of Paper” by award winning playwright Rajiv Joseph. The show is scheduled for this weekend, starting Friday night (April 12) at 8 p.m. Warning: mature audiences only due to content and strong language.

4. If you want to get your hands in the soil, wash some fences and do the sorts of chores that are necessary to spruce up a historic, old farm, join the group of volunteers at the Strong Family Farm on Saturday morning, April 13, at 9. The farms needs volunteers for sweeping, painting, raking lawns, clearing fence lines, labeling farm tools, weed whacking, shucking gladiola bulbs, cleaning horse harnesses, and more in order to prepare the farm for Spring activities.

5. The Parsons Dance troupe will be performing at the Jorgensen Theater at UConn on Saturday, April 13.
