What to Do in Tolland This Weekend: March 15 - 17

Here's a look at several interesting events going on in the Tolland area this weekend, including spring home and garden sales and tips, suicide prevention and high school drama.

1. Due to last Friday's snowstorm, the Tolland High School drama club's presentation of Little Shop of Horrors was reschedule until tonight, Friday, March 15. Tickets are available at the school and the show starts at 7 p.m. Don't be late!

2. For a more serious discussion, St. Matthew Roman Catholic Church will host a thoughtful training on how to be that "one voice" to help start a conversation on suicide prevention. A group, sponsored by St. Matthew Church in collaboration with the Tolland Local Prevention Council, will gather in the church hall at 7 p.m. on Friday.

3. On a lighter note, and just in time for St. Patrick's Day, on Saturday, March 16, from 1 p.m. - 3 p.m., Books & Boos, at 514 Westchester Rd. in Colchester, will be hosting a panel discussion about Celtic Mythology and its influence on fiction. It's a bit of a trip from the Tolland Green, 40 minutes down the highway or about one hour if you prefer the leisurely scenic drive down Route 85, but the discussion is perfect for the weekend.

4. If you're up for something a bit closer, and an event that will help you with your spring planning, the 2013 Enfield Home and Product Show runs this weekend at the former Nassau Furniture Building on King Street in Enfield.

5. The North Central Conservation District is holding its annual spring plant sale and you only have about 1 week left to place your order.

"A selection of trees, shrubs, perennials, and edibles, most native to Connecticut," are available to order. And don't forget about the evergreen and deciduous tree seedlings, and CT compost.

All proceeds benefit the North Central Conservation District, a nonprofit organization dedicated to providing environmental assistance

... As a bonus, if you're planning on being out and about in north central Connecticut on St. Patrick's Day to enjoy some good food and adult beverages, first and foremost, be safe. Be jovial, tap your toes to some Irish music and sing to your heart's content. Looking for a place to go?
