What to Do in Tolland This Weekend: March 2 - 3

Here's a look at several interesting events going on in the Tolland area, and one road trip suggestion, for the weekend.

It was slim pickings for events in town this weekend, but here's a look at things going on around Tolland, with one road trip for your consideration:

1. The University of Connecticut Worldfest 2013 will be celebrated on Sunday in the Rome Ballroom.

This event annual event, sponsored by the International Center and the International Student Organization, will run from 1 - 4 p.m. and includes "a diverse display of exhibits, dance performances, and ethnic foods," according to an announcement on Tolland Patch.

Everyone is welcome and admission is free. How can you beat that?

2. Celebrate Dr. Seuss' birthday with the Connecticut Historical Society on Saturday. The society is hosting a reading of The Cat and the Hat in hourly increments starting at 10:15 a.m. in its Cats & Dogs in Art and Life exhibit at its Hartford location.

The event is free and includes a special craft after the story.

3. If you're up for a bit of a road trip, the Mashantucket Pequot Museum is offering free admission for children 15 years old and younger on Saturday.

4. The Jorgensen Center for the Performing Arts in Storrs presents The Little Prince on Sunday at 2 p.m.

Described as "an astonishing new take on this classic story, which is actually a tale for all ages. This beautiful new production uses inventive puppets, live actors, original music and magnificent design to bring to life the heart-warming story of the Little Prince who gains rare and unique insights into love, loss, and laughter." It's sure to be a treat for the family.

5. If you prefer to sit and listen to authors read from a selection of their most recent work, make sure to be at the UConn Co-op Bookstore on Saturday afternoon at 1.

Short story writers Stacy Bierlein, author of A Vacation on the Island of Ex-Boyfriends, and Patricia Ann McNair author of Temple of Air will read from their work. Both authors are published by the literary press, Elephant Rock Books.
