”Lute Songs From Shakespeare's Time” AT THE ARTS CENTER OF TOLLAND

(TOLLAND) Arts of Tolland is pleased to announce a very special cultural performance, “Lute Songs From Shakespeare’s Time”  to be held at the Arts Center of Tolland, 22 Tolland Green, Tolland, CT (06084), by the duo of suprano Katharine DeBoer and James Meadors on lute.

This very exiting performance will be held on Tuesday evening, October 4 at 7:00 p.m. Tickets are $10 general admission and $8 Arts of Tolland members and students.  Advance reservations can be made by calling 860-871-7405.

The program will consist of songs with lute accompaniment from around 1600, written by the poet-musician Thomas Campion, the lutenist John Dowland, and some of their contemporaries. The performers are soprano Katharine DeBoer, and James Meadors, lute.

Katharine DeBoer, soprano,  former long-time resident of Vermont, DeBoer earned her masters and doctoral degrees in vocal performance at the University of Illinois where she studied with coach and renowned accompanist, John Wustman. She currently is faculty at University of Nevada. A skilled performer of chamber music, she is a frequent collaborator on chamber music concert series. She’s 
appeared as a soloist both nationally and abroad.

James Meadors earned a Ph.D. in musicology at Harvard University, where he wrote his dissertation on 16th-century Italian lute music. He has taught music history, guitar, and lute at the New England Conservatory and Holy Cross College. Jim has played with many early music ensembles in the Boston area, among them Amphion's Lyre, Much Ado, the Mystic Consort, A Pilgrimes Solace,  
and La Donna Musicale, ith flutist Ethel Farny, he has recorded five CDs of music for flute and guitar.  For further information, call Arts of Tolland at 871-7405. The Arts Center of Tolland is handicap accessible.  Arts of Tolland is a nonprofit arts organization based in Tolland, Connecticut.
