Kid's Academy Loses Its Lease in Vernon, Students Look to Tolland

The Tolland Kid's Academy is taking on many of the students.

A popular day care and pre-school center in Vernon has lost its lease, but most of the children there will be relocated to its sister facility in Tolland, the owner said on Wednesday.

Lori Osgood, the owner of Kid's Academy, said she was informed by the Vernon Manor health care center that her lease would not be renewed and that the center could stay until the end of the month.

She said that meant leaving the current space at 180 Regan Rd. It also left her scrambling to find new digs in Vernon.

That did not happen, she said.

Osgood said she was told Vernon Manor needed the space for six additional private rooms.

She said she immediately offered space at the Tolland location and most of the families took her up on it. That will put the roster at 92 children in Tolland, she said.

The Tolland Kid's Academy is located at 52 Rhodes Rd.

The Vernon staff is also moving to Tolland, she said.

Osgood said she believes every Vernon student has found accommodations.

Just in case, the Vernon School Readiness Council is reaching out to the affected families, Kidsafe CT implementation coordinator Michelle Hill said. Hill said the town's birth-to-8 coordinator, Allison Altieri, is making available all openings at the various centers in Vernon. She can be reached at 860-870-6000, ext. 112. Altieri has an office at the Vernon Board of Education.
