Readers' Choice Results: Favorite Place to Get an Ice Cream

With several to choose from the area, the UConn Dairy Bar seems to be the cream of the crop.

When Tolland wants to get a real scoop of ice cream or a shake that’s so think you might have to use a spoon, residents don’t mind traveling down Route 195 to Storrs to stop by the UConn Dairy Bar.

The Dairy Bar, the homemade ice cream stand located on the University of Connecticut campus, was voted as the readers’ choice for the best place to get ice cream in the Tolland area.

Although it’s situated on the campus, less than 40 percent of its customers are UConn students. Business starts to pick up at the popular shop as soon as the temperatures start to rise and while the lines can be long, for most it’s worth the wait for a MOO-Latta or a traditional hot fudge sundae with a cherry on top.

If residents feel like staying in town to get their frozen, creamy treat, the Tolland XTra Mart on Route 30 or the American Creamery, a self-serve ice cream bar inside the Citgo station near Goose Lane are the places to go.

Check back next week when Patch continues its quest to determine the best places to prepare for summer activities. In light of the state’s recent approval of allowing liquor stores to open on Sunday, and with people planning Memorial Day barbeques, Patch will ask where the best place is to purchase liquor, beer and wine in the area.
