Readers' Choice: Favorite Place to Get Ice Cream

The summer season kicks off soon. Where will you get your frozen treats?

The weather is getting warmer and Memorial Day weekend is within shouting distance. That means it's time once again for swimming, sunscreen, and best of all, regular trips to your favorite ice cream spot.

You can get soft serve and slushies and frozen coffee drinks at almost any convenience store, McDonalds or Dunkin' Donuts. But where do you go for the real thing — the kind it takes someone with well-developed biceps to scoop out of a box?

We have included some of the obvious choices in Tolland and the surrounding area. If we've overlooked any please include them in comments.

Tolland Xtra Mart (Route 30)

Citgo (Goose Lane and 195)

Citgo at the corner of Goose Lane and 195. Our family calls it "GSIC" (gas station ice cream). We love it!

Is the UCONN dairy bar in Tolland? I thought it was in Storrs.

@Phil and Teachermommy, Thanks for the suggestions. I'll add them to the poll now. @Michael - You're correct, the Dairy Bar is in Storrs. People are welcome to suggest places in the Tolland area where you can get a great scoop and someone thought the Dairy Bar should definitely be included. Enjoy the ice cream! Megan

It says right on the Patch blurb that Dari farms isn't open to the public, but it is still listed here as if someone could walk in a purchase a cone. Doesn't Patch know its own site? These polls are lame, self serving, and could be hurtful to businesses, but you persist in them.

If location doesn't matter, I'd have to say Shady Glen in Bolton or Manchester and the ice cream shop in Stafford, at the rotary.

@ Long time resident, Thanks for your post. Yes, DARI Farms should not be part of this poll, thank you for pointing that out. I've added clarification to the poll, but am not able to remove it as an option because it would compromise the other votes. Best, Megan
