"Stuff" Rolls Downhill...

and that's why you need to come hear directly from the candidates for local office on Tuesday night.   Governing at any level is difficult, usually complicated, and often thankless work.  This work is made more challenging at the local level, where you need to collect taxes and provide services within rules that are often changed on a whim at the Federal and State levels.

For example, the recent proposal for eliminating the Personal Property Tax that continues to be considered at the State House.  Sounds fabulous --- get rid of that regressive "nuisance tax"!!!  Sign me up!

Unfortunately, this "nuisance" funds a chunk of your local government  --- and one of the ways suggested to help replace those funds is a "state grant."  This State actually fully funding any promised grant would be a true miracle.  The State making a financial decision that disproportionately affects a small community like Tolland... not really a miracle, more like business as usual.

At this level, our unpaid elected officials are working with Tolland's professional staff to keep our community safe, maintain its infrastructure, decide how to manage its land, educate its children, provide services for all its citizens and chart a course for its future -- despite extremely limited resources.  Don't you want a say in who these people will be?

I want my local leaders to work together to maintain a bright future for Tolland --- even as the "stuff" continues to roll at them.

Get to know a little about our candidates and their perspectives at Tolland Community Women's "Meet the Candidates" night on Tuesday, October 29th at 7:00 p.m. at the Tolland High School Auditorium.  Moderated by former THS teacher and principal Joe Bacewicz,  this is an opportunity to ask a question, or just listen, and decide who you will vote for on November 5th.
