Crews Begin Work on Hanging Branches

The town has 1,136 hanging branches left from the October storm, according to Public Works Director Clem Langlois, Jr.

Crews have begun removing hanging tree limbs from Tolland roads, left over from the , according to Public Works Director Clem Langlois, Jr. 

Langlois said that New England Arborist Tree Care began the first day of removing the precarious branches on Tuesday. Langlois said that Tolland has a total of 1,136 branches hanging over right of ways that need to be removed.

While he estimates that the removal of hangers will cost around $45,000 for the town, many of the other clean up activities have been done with town workers, which Langlois said saves money.

He added that the hangers should all be removed in about a month and a half, and that the entire clean up process is being meticulously documented so that the town can receive compensation from FEMA for up to 75 percent of the costs.

He said that he already has 3,000 pictures for documentation.

Langlois anticipates that the town will go to bid for a tub grinder in order to take care of the massive debris pile at sometime in January.
