Fall-Like Weather, An Economic Poll, and Roller Skating

The following can be found in and around Tolland today, October 4, 2011.

1. Things will look a little brighter today, at least when it comes to the weather.

According to the National Weather Service you can expect a mostly sunny sky after the fog lifts mid-morning, and the temperature to be about 65 ºF during the day. It will be a chilly night, though, with the temperature getting into the 30s. It's time to get those warm blankets out.

2. Are you better off than you were four years ago?

3. October is National Roller Skating Month, first declared by President Ronald Reagan in 1983. The Roller Skating Association embarks on a month-long campaign to encourage children to lead healthier lifestyles. With cold weather headed our way, area roller rinks are inviting folks indoors for some climate-controlled skating fun. The perks? Skating is affordable, fun, healthy, suitable for all ages and can be done indoors or out. Skating is said to relieve tension as well so why not check out some local rinks and try your hand (or foot) at this recreational activity.

4. Not only does Skater City Amusement Park in Enfield offer roller skating, they also have “toxic” laser tag, an arcade and black-lit mini-golf. They will be offering skating lessons and dodge ball soon, too. Visit Skater City’s Web site for their events calendar, which includes tomorrow night's event, a Christian ultimate youth night. At these events, admission is buy-one, get-one free and contemporary music is played from 5:30 to 9:30 p.m. for folks of all ages. The park's normal hours are Friday and Saturday from 10 a.m. to midnight and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Skater City is also open Monday through Thursday by appointment.

5. Ron-A-Roll in Vernon offers skating lessons for people of all ages as well as daily and special events. Christian gospel music skates, organ music skates, blasts from the past, top 40, tiny tot skating with playtime, discount nights and more are available. A fall skating special is now taking place as well. Visit Ron-A-Roll online for all the details.
