Good News Friday: TIS Winners, Ice Cream and a Special Easter Sunrise Service

This edition of Good News Friday brings you details about good things happening in and around Tolland, including award-winning posters, an art challenge, ice cream and a special service.

Folks, we have a winner! Two, in fact!

Congratulations to Tolland Intermediate School students Emily Bliss and Kathryn Heaney on their award-winning posters in the statewide Connecticut Fire Prevention Poster Contest. And extra special congratulations to Emily for being the overall statewide winner in the contest!

According to the town fire marshal’s office, Kathryn’s and Emily’s posters moved swiftly through the competition from the classroom level to the county level. All the winners from throughout Tolland County and the state were recognized this past Wednesday, March 27, at a luncheon in Cromwell.

As a side note, this year was Emily’s second year representing Tolland Intermediate School and Tolland County at the state level.

Nice work by both girls!

Two local businesses announced good news this weekend that should tickle most residents pink.

Come and get your ice cream! The American Creamery is now open for the season. The Merrow Road facility is now serving up soft serve and hard ice cream, sundaes, gelato, soft yogurt and more.

At the same location, the Between Rounds Bakery Sandwich Café has just announced that it’s looking for local artists to help decorate its area of the building.

Paintings, drawings, printmaking and photography will all be considered. Local artists may submit a portfolio of their work to Jerry Puiia at Between Rounds corporate headquarters located at 19A John Fitch Blvd, Route 5 in South Windsor, CT 06074. If accepted for display, the maximum frame size is 36" in either direction.

Tolland Patch would be remiss if this piece of good news wasn’t shared on Good Friday:

On Easter Sunday, the Congregational Church on Tolland Green will offer an Easter Sunrise Service for the first time in 73 years. The service will be held on Sunday, March 31, at 6:15 a.m. at Crandall Lodge. Traditional Easter Worship Services will follow at 8:30 a.m. and 10 a.m. at the church.
