McNeil: Tylenol is Becoming Safer

The drug's manufacturer will be lowering the maximum recommended dose to prevent overdoses of acetaminophen.

Tylenol manufacturers will be setting new, lower dosing recommendations on Tylenol products to prevent damage from acetaminophen overdose.

McNeil Consumer Healthcare is recommending that the maximum dose of extra strength Tylenol be lowered from 4,000 mg per day to 3,000 mg.

Acetaminophen is the active ingredient in Tylenol and is present in many other over the counter pain medications. It can cause liver damage when taken in high quantities.
