Notorious Convict May Move to Tolland

The paroled "Peanut Butter Bandit" has proposed living in Tolland with his sister when he is released in October, the Hartford Courant reports.

Frederick R. Merrill, "The Peanut Butter Bandit," has proposed moving to Tolland to live with his sister when he is released from prison in October, the Hartford Courant reports. The parole board has not yet approved Merrill's proposal.

The Courant stated that the 65-year-old convict has been in jail for the last 24 years for various crimes including burglary and sexual assault. Over the years, he has escaped from several different prisons, most notoriously in 1968 using a gun, money and handcuff key that his mother brought to him concealed in a jar of peanut butter, according to the Courant.
