Patch Picks: Looking Ahead to Summer Camps
Ready to plan the summer ahead? Here are some options for camps for kids.
Though it's not yet spring, we can still look ahead by planning the summer. In this week's Patch Picks, we offer up some options for summer camps for kids.
Located in Mansfield, this day camp offers programs for children ages 3 1/2 through 14. Some of the activities offered daily include swimming, arts and crafts, nature, and sports. Older campers have the opportunity to try rock climbing and high ropes courses.

This camp allows children with serious and life threatening diseases the opportunity to spend some time outdoors enjoying nature. Located in Ashford, this residential summer camp is available to children ages 7 to 15 living in New England, New York and New Jersey free of charge. Some of the activies children may enjoy during their stay at Hole in The Wall include photography, horseback riding, archery, mini golf and music. Doctors and nurses are available on site to attend to campers medical needs.

Here you can choose from either residential or day camp programs. Children ages 6 through 15 may attend day camp. The residential program is open to campers ages 9 through 15. This camp offers theme weeks, canoeing, challenge and ropes courses, as well as many other activities. New for 2011 is a 400-foot zip line. The camp is located in Pomfret Center.
This camp is located in Woodstock Valley. Both one and two week sessions are available for campers ages 7 to 14. Campers ages 15 and 16 may attend a month long leader in training program. Over 30 activities are available to enjoy during each session. Sailing, drama, and mountain biking are just a few of the options.
• Excursions in Learning, Manchester Community College
Manchester Community College’s Excursions in Learning programs offer a wealth of engaging educational experiences for kindergarteners to kids in 8th grade. Most programs last one or two weeks. There are programs concentrated on technology, culinary skills and leadership (including an intensive ropes course component). Programs run in the middle of August and July.
