Three Community Wells on Boil Advisory Notice

The Department of Public Health warns that some community wells may be contaminated.

Three community in wells in Tolland have been placed on a boil advisory notice, due to possible contaminants from flooding after Tropical Storm Irene, according to the state Department of Public Health.

In a news release, the department lists Norwegian Woods Apartments, Eastview Kozley Water Association and Stone Pond Condominiums as under the advisory.

"Safe drinking water is a top priority," said Lori Mathieu, Chief of the DPH Drinking Water Section in the department's news release. "It’s important that residential customers served by systems that have issued a boil water advisory follow the guidance of their public water system."

The release explains that residents with private wells should also take caution in case of contaminants. Generally, shallow wells or those with raised groud water tables due to flooding may be vulnerable. A strange test or discoloration may point to contamination.

To safely boil drinking water, the DPH recommends heating the water to a rolling boil for one minute.
