Tolland EOC Hands Out Food, Drinking Water to Residents in Need

The emergency personnel distributed the federal supplies at the Fire Training Center and at Tolland Green.

Tolland EOC staff set up two drinking water and food stations today to provide necessary supplies to Tolland residents still suffering from the effects of . 

According to the CL&P outage map, 23 percent of Tolland CL&P customers are still affected by power outages as of Wednesday afternoon. The EOC estimates that more than 90 percent of the town's power should be restored by Friday night.

According to Tolland Fire Department Public Information Officer Seale Tuttle, the EOC handed out 88 cases of water and 184 ready-to-eat meals this afternoon. FEMA provided the much needed supplies for the town to distribute.

Tolland resident Victor Gagliardi stopped by to pick up some water. His home on Old Farms Road has been without power since Saturday night.

"What can you do?" he replied when asked how he was holding up. Gagliardi said that he was doing well until his generator stopped working.

While many Tolland residents have stopped by for supplies, Tuttle said that residents from nearby towns like Willington, Andover and Ashford have also picked up essential drinking water and food.

The town has also provided showers and cell phone charging at the Tolland Senior Center, which will remain open until 10 p.m. today for residents. However, residents should bring their own towels and toiletries.

Tuttle says that over two hundred Tolland residents have already used the facility. 

According to Tuttle, eight roads are still closed in town. EOC personnel have been providing supplies and generator fuel for residents on Metcalf Road, who were trapped by multiple road blockages. Fortunately, the road was reopened on Wednesday.

Personnel have also pumped multiple flooded basements for residents.

Residents can bring tree debris to the designated drop off point at 287 Baxter Street. The site will be open from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Thursday to Saturday, and from 8 a.m. to noon on Sunday. 

Superintendent William Guzman has until Tuesday, September 6, due to poor road conditions.
