U.S. Rep. Joe Courtney Visits Tolland EOC

Town Manager Steven Werbner and Emergency Management Director John Littell shared their concerns about the winter storm response with Courtney.

U.S. Representative Joe Courtney (D-2nd District) made a brief stop at the Tolland EOC on Tuesday afternoon and discussed Connecticut's difficult snow storm recovery with Town Manager Steve Werbner and Emergency Management Director John Littell.

In an interview with Tolland Patch, Courtney expressed his dissatisfaction with , as the state battles power outages .

"Frankly, it's infuriating," Courtney said of the delayed recovery process. "The communication problem that we thought we learned the lesson from isn't happening." Courtney said that only 430 line crews are currently working in the state, while around 1,700 crews were working at the height of the Tropical Storm Irene response.

"At the end of the day, there aren't enough line crews on the ground," Courtney said to Werbner and Littell.

Courtney said that, in the future, Connecticut's physical and human response infrastructure has to be evaluated to try to prevent such severe power outages.

"This system is obviously very fragile," Courtney said. 

Courtney has spent Monday and Tuesday touring the region and surveying the damage.
