Updated: Kramer Resigns School Board Seat, Fratoni Moves Up

The letters have been submitted to town officials.

Newly elected Republican Board of Education member Karen Kramer has resigned her seat.

And she is being replaced by Al Fratoni, per an appointment by the Republican Town Committee.

Registrar of Voters Michael Wyman confirmed the scenario on Wednesday after receipt of letters in the town clerk's office.

Board members are to be sworn in Wednesday evening.

Kramer was the fifth-highest vote-getter on Nov. 5. Fratoni edged Democrat Miranda Wojnar by one vote and neither gained a seat.

The candidates waived their rights to a recount, but Democratic Town Committee Chairman Steven Jones said he has requested a legal opinion from the town attorney to see if the developments mandate a recount.

He said he also wants to make sure the appointment is proper.

Here is a breakdown of the school board race:

D Kathy Gorsky - 1,606
D Karen Moran - 1,586
R Bob Pagoni - 1,574
D Tom Frattaroli - 1,571
R Karen Kramer - 1,496
D Sam Alderstein - 1,445
R Steve Clark - 1,410
D Patrick Doyle - 1,405
R Joseph Sce - 1,346

Both the registrars of voters and the town clerk's offices said late Wednesday and early Thursday, respectively, that it is a common scenario.

The school board, including Fratoni, was sworn in Wednesday evening.

Town Manager Steven Werbner is out for the balance of the week, but will likely review the Democratic Town Committee request when he returns, according to staff members.
