Tolland Fire Dept. Fall Open House

On Saturday, October 13, 2012 The Tolland Fire Department, Inc. will host its 15th Annual Community Open House from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at the Fire Training Center, 191 Merrow Road (across from Meeting House Commons).

The Open House will feature displays of firefighting and emergency medical equipment.  There will also be live demonstrations of various specialized tools and equipment, including the Jaws of Life, weather permitting.  Many of the department’s trucks and an ambulance will be open to the public, making the event particularly appealing for children.  Fire Explorers from Post 40 will be present to help conduct demonstrations, answer questions and explain their post activities.

The event marks the conclusion of the 90th annual observance of National Fire Prevention Week.  Information on fire safety will be distributed.  Light refreshments will be served throughout the event.  Papa Gino’s Pizza of Vernon will again provide free pizza.  There will also be a drawing for door prizes.

The Open House also offers an opportunity for town residents who are interested in joining the Tolland Fire Department, Inc. to talk with current department members about training, time commitments and the sense of satisfaction that may be derived from providing a valuable service to neighbors and the Tolland community.
