St. John’s Concert, the Jalapeño Quartet

On Sunday, November 3rd at 4:00 p.m. St. John's Episcopal Church in Vernon, CT will present the third in its series of concerts, featuring the Jalapeño Quartet.

The Jalapeño Quartet is a group of Hartt School of Music graduates that came together with the inspiration to perform the Claude Bolling Suite for flute and jazz piano trio.  Its members include flutist Melanie Chirignan, bassist Chris Langhans, drummer Dane Scozzari, and pianist Maria Centola.

During the concert, you can look forward to hearing: Ian Clarke’s Zoom Tube, for solo flute.  This is an Ian Anderson, Bobby McFerrin, and blues inspired piece with singing and playing, multiphonics, and other interesting sound effects wrapped into a catchy piece.  Michael Mower’s Sonata Latino, which is in a South American style, incorporating Salsa, Merengue, Rumba, Tango and Bossa Nova.  It sounds the way a contemporary Latin jazz duo may improvise at a gig.  Ian Clarke’s, The Great Train Race, sounds just like the name implies.  The Quartet will close with Claude Bolling’s Suite for flute and jazz piano trio, containing several contrasting movements.  This is a playful, comical, jazz meets classical kind of piece.
