FRIENDS OF TOLLAND MUSIC NEEDS YOU!

The Friends of Tolland Music (FOTM) is a non-profit group of parents and staff of the music departments of Tolland Schools dedicated to helping to support excellent music programs for our students.  The funding we provide allows the music department to offer our students opportunities that are not covered in the school budget.  FOTM funding for the last several years has allowed us to provide an accompanist  for the middle school choral concerts, and professional guest artists to work with our students.  Jazz specialist Andrew Plourd has worked with our high school jazz students to open their ears to the possibilities of jazz improvisation. Nationally known composer Amy Beron worked with our students and composed a piece specifically for the THS Women’s chorus.  THS was honored to present the world premiere of the piece at the October 24 concert.

This year we were awarded a grant by the Newman’s Own Foundation, and in addition to our usual projects we were able to provide the much needed two timpani to complete the timpani set as well as a baritone saxophone for Tolland Middle School.  For the bulk of our fundraising,  FOTM records and sells the CDS of the student concerts and prints and sells T-shirts for the different band and chorus groups.  Smaller items such as concert programs, microphones, graduation carnations,  and piano locks are also made possible for the students because of FOTM fund raising, grant writing, and donations.

WE NEED YOU!

Upcoming meeting dates are Feb 5, March 5, April 2, and May 7 at 7:30 pm  in the music room at Tolland High school.  We are currently a small group, and we need as many parents as possible to help us continue to support these students and the musical programs in Tolland.  We need your ideas and enthusiasm, especially if you are a parent of a younger student who may have many years of music education in store. We need people who can go to meetings and help us plan our fundraisers and projects, but if you cannot attend meetings we always need help with reception setup, CD sales, and cleanup after shows.  Fundraising ideas (including grant writing) would be a huge asset as well.  You can email us at friendsoftollandmusic@gmail.com for more information and to be added to our email list.
