Patch, State Farm Agency, Taking Food Pantry Donations This Week

Patch will be at the agency on Wednesday taking donations in person.

It's been nearly a month since Hockanum Valley Community Council CEO David Engelson, nearly in tears, said things were getting rough at the food pantry.

He made a passionate appeal for donations - summer staples like peanut butter and jelly, macaroni and cheese, those cheese and cracker packages, pasta and sauce - and the community has begun to respond.

Hundreds of items have come in and the shelves are beginning to look better.
Late last week, he said, "we need to keep up the momentum," so Patch has teamed up with the Vernon State Farm Agency at 10 Hyde Avenue - off Route 30 near the Vernon-Tolland line - run by Town Council member Adam Weissberger to accept donations all week.

We will bring the donations to the food pantry - all you have to do is drop off the food at the agency.

Patch will be at the agency on Wednesday morning from 9:30 to 10:30, so drop by to say hello and bring a canned good. The agency is also donating a percentage of its July policy sales to the HVCC's FoodShare account.

We hope to see all many of you on Wednesday.
