Government offices and some other places close or curtail their hours for Memorial Day, which is this coming Monday, May 26, 2014, and for Memorial Day weekend, the traditional start of summer.

Heres a list of what's open and what's closed this weekend:
FRIDAY, May 23
Connecticut Department of Motor Vehicles offices will close at 12:30 p.m. Friday, remain closed on Saturday (they're normally closed on Monday) and reopen at 7:45 a.m. Tuesday.
For CT Transit riders on the No. 17 bus: "Friday, May 23, there will be additional buses assigned to the #17 Commuter express route 12:05PM and 2:05PM mid day trips prior to the Memorial Day Holiday weekend in anticipation of higher ridership. The mid day service will operate on the regular (published in the timetables) schedule."
SATURDAY, May 24 — Closed
Connecticut Department of Motor Vehicles offices; but AAA offices will be open. (DMV offices reopen at 7:45 a.m. Tuesday.)
SATURDAY — Open
Tolland Library is open normal Saturday hours (10 a.m. to 5 p.m.)
Darien Recycling Center (the town Dump), open normal Saturday hours (7:30 a.m. to 2:15 p.m.)
Post Offices
"All AAA offices will be open to process renewals for driver licenses and non-driver ID cards during their normal business hours on Friday, May 23 and Saturday, May 24. AAA offices will be closed on Monday, May 26." according to the Connecticut Department of Motor Vehicles.
SUNDAY, May 25
Tolland Memorial Day Parade:
"The parade will line up in the parking lot next to the Preschool of the Arts on Route 74 at noon, step off at 1 p.m. and end at Tolland Intermediate School with a ceremony to follow."
MONDAY, May 26 — Closed
Hicks Memorial Municipal Center (Town Hall) and Tolland town offices
No trash and recycling pickups: "Due to the Memorial Day holiday on Monday, May 26th there will be no solid waste or recycling pick-up. All routes will be postponed to the day after your regular pick-up day. If your regular pick-up is Monday you will be picked up Tuesday of that week, etc."

Connecticut Department of Motor Vehicles customer service centers are normally closed on Mondays.
AAA offices
Banks, all or almost all —even TD Banks, including the one at 55 Post Rd. (All banks in the state have the option of remaining open on public holidays. In practice, TD Bank is closed the least.)
The New York Stock Exchange and the financial industry are closed.

Grocery stores
Other businesses: open at the owner’s discretion
Call ahead or look online before heading to businesses to confirm they are open. Many retail stores or gyms/health clubs may be operating on a Sunday schedule or with limited hours.
