The Tolland All-Stars were victorious over Maryland Saturday night, 8-6. This was Tolland's first game of the Eastern Regional Tournament in Freehold, New Jersey, this week.
Pitching this game for Tolland were Matt Curtis, Nick Paasch, Eric Gottier, and Thomas Slane. The team had a few errors in the beginning of the game, but came back to sharpen up their defense and end the game in their favor.
Vinny Farrell hit hard this game, with a double as the lead-off batter in the first, and a triple in the second inning. After two innings, the score was tied at 2-2. Both teams pulled in runs in the third, with Maryland on top by the end, but Tolland came ahead in the fourth with 7 runs to Maryland's 5.
Maryland got another run in the bottom of the inning, but in the fifth Tolland secured the lead with another run, putting them at 8-6 over the opposition. Paasch made a diving catch in center field and threw to second base for a double play to end to the fifth inning.
Neither team scored in the last two innings. The game ended in the bottom of the seventh on a pop fly caught by Tolland's Corey Domingos.
Tolland is representing the state of Connecticut in this region of the Little League Tournament. Their win Saturday puts them in the winners' bracket to play again on Monday.
