Tolland Juniors' Exciting Season Comes to a Close

Tolland's season ended with a 13-7 loss to Rhode Island.

The Tolland All-Stars represented the state of Connecticut this week in the Junior League Eastern Regional Baseball Tournament.  They played their final game against the Rhode Island State Champions on Wednesday and lost, with a final score of 13-7.

Pitching for Tolland and on the front for a great defensive effort were Thomas Slane, Sean Kelly, Jacob Simon, Vinny Farrell, and Matt Curtis.  The boys stayed sharp, with quick fielding and a fantastic double play in the seventh, but were unable to hold Rhode Island.

Tolland ended their season with an incredible record of 16-4.  After their losses to New York and Rhode Island, they were eliminated from the Regional Tournament.  New York won the final championship game on Thursday, and headed to Michigan for the Junior League World Series.

Rhode Island took a 3-run lead in the top of the first.  Tolland tied the game in the bottom of the second, but Rhode Island took the lead again in the third and continued to score and stay on top throughout the rest of the game.

Tolland's Andrew Clokey and Farrell both doubled this game to give their team a fighting chance.  All the players battled hard, but Rhode Island took the win.  The team will be ready to play again next season, hopefully taking the state title for a second year in a row.
